WESTIN HOTEL BALACLAVA

ABOUT

The Intercontinental Hotel at Balaclava was the first hotel I ever stayed at in Mauritius and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We were fortunate to be upgraded and ended up with a large beachfront with an enormous terrace.

As the visit to Mauritius was for business we were only booked in for two nights but still managed to take in as much of its facilities and atmosphere as possible. My husband even managed to sneak out for a few hours fishing which the hotel chartered for him.

The beach is well kept and the staff are attentive which you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Rooms are clean and well serviced and the hotel itself is maintained to a modern standard which is sometimes lacking with other hotels (not mentioned in this 'Top 10 Hotels in Mauritius').

The setting is wonderful and you will enjoy the first time you walk through the central reception attrium and see the view done to the beach.

RESTAURANT

BEACH HOUSE, GRAND BAIE

What makes it into my Mauritius Top 10 lists?
Places I want to get back to time and time again, and the Beach House Bar and Restaurant is sure a place.

What makes it even more important to be good?
These are the places I will take my friends and family plus recommend to others, so as far as I’m concerned they suit my tastes.

We are creatures of habit and whenever we go up North we will make sure we visit the Beach House Grand Baie. In fact, in most cases, the trip is based on an afternoon at the Beach House Grand Baie and we fit other items around it, such as shopping etc.

What is there not to like about the Beach House Grand Baie?
As the name says, its a house (bar/restaurant) on a beach. A long lazy lunch can extend into sundowners watching the waves roll in whilst chatting to friends.

One of the biggest draws for me coming back time and again is that each time you can kick back, chill and let the world go by!

LOCAL ATTRACTION

GRAND BASSIN

"One of the most sacred places for Hindu’s is considered to be Grand Bassin or Ganga Talao.

The Grand Bassin lake is considered to be sacred in the Hindu faith. According to popular belief, the water in the lake is said to have originated from the Indian river of Ganga. Moreover, adjacent to the lake stands erected a 33 meter tall statue of Lord Shiva.

Grand Bassin is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus from across the world. In fact, it is the largest Hindu pilgrimage site that lies outside India.

The Maha Shivratri pilgrimage takes place every year between February and March. The pilgrimage takes place over 3 days and 3 nights. The pilgrims walk to the lake carrying mobile altars on their backs, which represent different deities. Once at the edge of the waters, the pilgrims perform their own private ceremony to the deities with incense, flowers and other offerings."
