INTRODUCTION

CHAMAREL RHUMERIE

One of the distillery’s strong points is that it was designed to provide a holistic tourism experience to guests. Mauritian architect Maurice Giraud has created a building that blends harmoniously with the spectacular surroundings. Wood, natural stone, and water provide a sense of communion with nature, turning the distillery into one of the most beautiful factories in the world. Another strong point of the distillery is that it was created to produce the finest rum.

Experienced guides will take you behind the scenes to provide a thorough explanation of the rum-making process while you visit the distillery.

PINK PIGEON

Native only to Mauritius, the pink pigeon is now one of the rarest birds in the world and used to be widely distributed throughout the island. Today, pink pigeons are found only in four sub-populations located in remote, forested, or mountainous regions of southwestern Mauritius.

Pink Pigeon rum is produced in Mauritius at the Médine estate, which includes a rum distillery and a sugar factory, both separated by a few metres. The sugar factory supplies the distillery with sugar-rich molasses.

Pink Pigeon is a rum flavoured with vanilla, wild orchid petals, and orange zest. The Bourbon vanilla used comes exclusively from the neighbouring islands of Madagascar and Reunion, while the oranges and orchids are from Mauritius.

SAINT AUBIN

Located the south of the island of Mauritius, a few kilometres north of Souillac, the estate of St. Aubin has been cultivating sugar cane since 1819. The distillery located on the estate itself was named after its former owner Mr. Pierre de Saint Aubin. It is known for creating the first sugarcane-based rum on the island.

The Groupe Saint Aubin is a historical agro-industrial Mauritian group based in the south of Mauritius. It is a family-run business created in 1819. The company started in the sugar industry and has further diversified throughout the years. It purchased the Bois Chéri Tea plantation in 1958 and worked on making the Bois Chéri Tea the most famous tea in Mauritius.

Groupe Saint Aubin is also the pioneer of fresh sugar cane juice rum in Mauritius with its famous Saint Aubin 1819 Rum. Groupe Saint Aubin began its diversification into the tourism sector in 2003 with the launching of La Route du Thé, du Rhum et de la Vanille, a unique and authentic experience, taking the traveler on a journey that excites all the senses through the discovery of the worlds of tea, sugar, rum, vanilla, and essential oils. Nowadays, the group is well diversified with famous brands in rum and tea, three restaurants, and different tourism activities.

NEW GROVE

The award-winning New Grove Rums are testimonials to Mauritius’s long-standing history in the art of rum making. They showcase the rich heritage and excellence of the island’s rum-making tradition.

In 1852, Dr Pierre Charles François Harel developed the concept of local distillation of rum in Mauritius, using only the finest local ingredients from his vast Pamplemousses Garden Estate to create a liquor of outstanding quality and pure refinement.

150 years later, New Grove rum still conveys this strong heritage and retains these delicate flavours from the past. Crafted in the middle of the green sugar fields, and produced in limited quantity, this exclusive rum is reserved for the real connoisseurs who can truly appreciate its subtle refinement.
