Alexandra Falls viewpoint sits on the edge of the Plaine Champagne plateau at roughly 700 metres altitude, looking out over a dramatic gorge where the Alexandre River cascades in a series of drops before the valley opens towards the south coast. It is one of the most accessible panoramic viewpoints in Mauritius — a short walk from the parking area to a paved platform with a clear, wide view.

The falls themselves are not the main spectacle here — the gorge landscape is. The plateau edge drops away steeply into a forested ravine, with the cascade visible in the middle distance and the patchwork of cane fields and coast beyond. On clear days the south coast and the open ocean are visible on the horizon. The plateau altitude means the air is noticeably cooler and often misty — bring a light layer.

The viewpoint is part of the scenic drive across Plaine Champagne, which is one of the most rewarding driving routes in Mauritius. Starting from Curepipe and heading south-west, the route passes the Trou aux Cerfs crater, the Black River Gorges visitor centre, the Grand Bassin sacred lake, the Alexandra Falls viewpoint, and descends to the Chamarel area with its waterfall and coloured earth. The full drive takes half a day and covers the most dramatic highland scenery on the island.

The best time to visit is mid-morning on clear days. The plateau clouds over reliably in the afternoon; if you arrive after 2pm, the views are often obscured by mist. The site is free and requires no preparation — it works well as a stop on a longer drive rather than a dedicated excursion.
