Legal requirements
- Hosts must be registered with the Tourism Authority of Mauritius. Always ask for their registration certificate.
- Rental income is taxable in Mauritius. Legitimate landlords will declare it.
- You should receive a rental agreement — never pay without one.
- Security deposits (typically 1–2 months) are standard and should be returned after inspection.
Practical tips
- Book 2–3 months ahead for peak season (Jul–Aug and Dec–Jan).
