In Case of Cyclone
Follow Météo France Mauritius bulletins at meteo.intnet.mu or on Radio Mauritius. The cyclone warning system uses four classes:
A cyclone is within 200km. Be aware. Listen to bulletins.
Cyclone within 150km. Go to a solid building. Secure property.
Stay indoors. Do not go out unless absolutely essential. Dangerous winds.
Extreme danger. Do NOT go outside for any reason. Life-threatening conditions.
Cyclone preparedness
- —Stock bottled water, tinned food, candles, matches, and a power bank before cyclone season (November to April)
- —Do not go outside during the eye of the cyclone — conditions return suddenly and without warning
- —Stay away from windows and glass doors during Class 3 and 4
- —Follow official announcements — do not rely on social media alone
Medical Emergencies
For serious emergencies, SAMU (114) will dispatch an ambulance. Private ambulances are also available and typically respond faster — ask at your hotel or villa. If self-transporting, go directly to the nearest private hospital emergency department. For non-life-threatening situations, private hospitals accept walk-ins at any time.
