Mare aux Vacoas Reservoir

La Cuvette Beach is a coastal destination in the north of Mauritius, offering one of Mauritius' characteristic combinations of white sand, turquoise lagoon water, and casuarina shade trees.
Mauritius has 110 kilometres of coastline protected by one of the world's largest coral reef systems. The reef creates calm, shallow lagoons ideal for swimming and snorkelling along most of the coast — a key reason the island is rated among the world's top beach destinations. Water temperatures sit between 24°C and 29°C year-round.
A hidden gem near Grand Baie, La Cuvette Beach offers a quiet retreat with clear waters and soft sand. It’s a lovely spot for swimming, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the view.
The best beaches in Mauritius are generally accessible to the public, though some stretches in front of hotels are managed by the properties. Facilities vary: some beaches have beach restaurants (chambre d'hôtes style snack bars), sun lounger hire, and watersport operators; others are undeveloped. Bring your own shade and water for more remote spots.
Snorkelling is rewarding at most beaches with reef close to shore — look for parrotfish, surgeonfish, puffer fish, and the occasional hawksbill turtle. The best visibility is in July–October, when trade winds keep the water clearest. Glass-bottom boat trips and boat snorkelling excursions are available from most beaches.
