Dolphin Watching at Tamarin Bay
Early morning boat trips from Tamarin Bay to swim with wild spinner dolphins in their natural habitat — the most…
Quad biking is one of the most popular adventure activities in Mauritius, and the central highland plateau offers the best terrain: a mix of sugar cane tracks, eucalyptus forest trails, and open hillside paths with panoramic views reaching both coasts on clear days.
Most quad operators are based in the Moka and Montagne Ory area of the central plateau, where the network of estate roads and forest tracks gives plenty of variety without the traffic of the coast roads. Tours typically run 1.5 to 3 hours, with guides leading groups of 3–8 bikes through a pre-planned circuit.
The terrain is genuinely varied: long straight sections through the cane give way to tight woodland trails, rocky hillside climbs, and muddy creek crossings in the wet season. The views from the upper trails — south towards the coast, north towards the capital — are the best available from ground level on the plateau.
No previous quad experience is required; a 10-minute briefing covers everything you need. Minimum age is typically 16, with children under 16 able to ride as passengers. Full-face helmets and overalls are provided by all reputable operators. The dusty season (May–October) produces better visibility for views; the wet season (November–April) creates muddier, more adventurous conditions. Both are enjoyable; bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty in either season.
