Wolmar Beach
A wide, accessible west coast beach in the heart of the Flic en Flac resort corridor, with good infrastructure and reliable sunset views.
Wolmar occupies the middle section of the Flic en Flac resort corridor, the stretch of west coast between the town of Flic en Flac and the Sofitel resort to the south, and it functions as the beach most accessible to guests of the several mid-range and upscale hotels in this section of the coast. The beach is wide, the sand is relatively clean, and the lagoon is the same reef-protected body of water that makes the entire west coast between Albion and Black River suitable for swimming.
The Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa and the Tamassa resort both front onto Wolmar beach, and their beach bars and watersports facilities are accessible (with some services available for purchase) to non-guests who use the public beach sections on either side. The overall beach experience at Wolmar is similar to Flic en Flac — similar water quality, similar sunset exposure, similar infrastructure — but at a slightly lower temperature of tourist activity, which makes it a comfortable middle ground for those who want facilities without crowds.
The reef at Wolmar, accessible by boat from the beach operators, includes several good dive sites in the 15–25 metre range with strong fish life and occasional ray sightings. Dive operators attached to the resort hotels offer morning and afternoon dives, and PADI certification courses are available through the hotel dive centres. The glass-bottom boat operated by the beach vendors runs a daily reef circuit that is the most accessible way to see the reef life without snorkelling or diving.
