International Preparatory School (IPS)

The International Preparatory School (IPS) is the most established international school in Mauritius, founded in 1975 and offering a British-style education from Nursery through to Sixth Form (Year 13). The school follows the British National Curriculum throughout, with students sitting Cambridge IGCSE examinations at Year 11 and A-Levels at Year 13.

IPS has a strong reputation among the expat community for academic rigour and consistency. The school has a large international student body drawn from across the diplomatic and corporate expatriate community, as well as Mauritians seeking a British-standard education. Class sizes are moderate, and the pastoral care structure is well regarded.

The main campus is in Moka, in the central highlands — well positioned for expats living in the central plateau area and accessible from both the north and the south via the motorway. There is also a secondary campus at Tamarin on the west coast for younger children.

Extra-curricular activities are extensive: sport (rugby, cricket, swimming, athletics), music, drama, and a range of academic clubs. University guidance is strong, with a good track record of placements at UK universities, including Russell Group institutions.

Fees are substantial — comparable to international schools in other emerging markets — but the standard of education justifies the cost for families prioritising British-curriculum qualifications. The school's waiting list for popular year groups can be significant; prospective families should register 12–18 months in advance of their intended start date.
