The standard stay permitted is 60 days, which can be extended to 90 days by applying at the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis.
No visa required countries
As of 2025, citizens of over 190 countries can enter Mauritius without a pre-arranged visa. This includes all major source markets for tourism: the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the United States, South Africa, Australia, India, China, and others. On arrival, you receive an entry stamp valid for 60 days.
Requirements on entry
Even without a formal visa requirement, you must present: - A valid passport (at least six months validity from date of entry) - A confirmed return or onward ticket - Proof of accommodation (hotel booking confirmation or a letter from your host) - Sufficient funds for your stay (there is no fixed minimum stated, but bank cards and a reasonable credit limit are accepted as evidence)
Extension of stay
To extend a 60-day entry to 90 days, visit the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) at SICOM Tower in Port Louis. Bring your passport, accommodation evidence, return ticket, and a completed extension form. The extension is usually granted on the same day and costs around MUR 500.
Staying longer: permits
For stays beyond 90 days, you need a formal permit (Premium Visa, Occupation Permit, or Retired Non-Citizen Permit). Entering on a tourist stamp and continuously renewing it by border-hopping (leaving and re-entering) is not officially sanctioned and can result in refusal of entry.
