Events and festivals in Mauritius

What's On in Mauritius

Upcoming events, festivals, concerts, markets and activities across the island.

Mauritius has a rich and varied events calendar that reflects the island's multicultural character. Diwali illuminates towns across the central plateau in October and November, Chinese New Year brings dragon dances and firecracker displays to Port Louis in January or February, and Cavadee — the Tamil festival of thanksgiving — is one of the most visually dramatic religious processions in the Indian Ocean. Holi fills beaches and parks with colour in March. Each festival is public and welcoming to visitors.

Music and arts events run throughout the year. The Mauritius International Jazz Festival, typically held in June, draws international acts to an open-air stage on the north coast. The Cotton Bay Regatta and sailing events on the east coast attract an international yachting crowd. Food and rum festivals in the south celebrate the island's culinary heritage with tastings, cooking demonstrations, and live entertainment.

Markets and community events round out the calendar. The weekly Grand Baie street market, the Mahébourg waterfront market on Mondays, and seasonal beach parties in Flic en Flac and Tamarin draw both residents and visitors.
